Objectives:

  • • Identify the benefits, limitations, and risks associated with ECLS.
  • • List at least 3 indications for venovenous and venoarterial ExtraCorporeal Membrane Oxygenation (ECMO).
  • • Describe the benefits of extracorporeal cardiopulmonary resuscitation.
  • • List best practices that contribute to Severe Respiratory Failure (SRF) patient survival.
  • • Describe the fundamental institutional, educational, and logistical processes and requirements for developing a successful SRF-ECMO service
  • • Describe the possible future of ECLS.
